The bell in the tower of Melton Old Church.  The inscription on the bell reads “Miles Graye made me 1618”.

The bell at Melton Old Church is a 5cwt Miles Graye.  The bell cradle was becoming fragile and it was not safe to ring the bell by swinging the cradle.  Under the guidance of Mr Winston Girling, Technical Advisor with the Suffolk Guild of Ringers, a system has been devised to allow the bell to chime using the clapper.  Now our 400 year old bell can chime safely and will ring out alongside other church bells to commemorate the end of WW1 in November 2018.
